Maybe the best of the “Awesome Boys pissed at each other in a car” panels
075: A Long Drive Home

And thus begins (I think) the runner that Jon hates Paul McCartney, a sentiment that would somehow be the very last thing to appear in the very last panel of Nowhere Band. Since his first appearance in a homemade I HATE THE HOLD STEADY shirt, Jon was for whatever reason always the conduit for my musical opinions.
Fun fact: the colored panels when Dan takes a hit from the kevlar bong (which is based on a real bong I once knew) are all from a psychedelic painting of my cat that I did a long time ago. I had it hanging in my office in the Weisman Art Museum, so I can technically say that my druggy cat painting has been hung in a museum.
Also, the campsite here is based on a real one that you used to be able to low-key use on the north shore of Lake Superior, but the Man has since put a stop to that.
This was some really fun Aaron dialogue to write.
ALSO! I love this storyline, but it has a weird genesis. Part of it was just that I liked the idea of a band trip to help cheer Dan up; but the other half was that I was increasingly not comfortable with the realization that, without thinking, I had established that Dan was dating a smart woman with red bobbed hair named Miranda. Not comfortable with the surprise of having written Sex and the City fan fiction, I tried to write Miranda out of the strip. It didn’t take, over the long haul, but she does have very non-Cynthia Nixon hair when she comes back.
